I hear you Ken and we agree more than we disagree on the details. All I said was that it is a HUGE problem and there probably won't be an answer to how we deal with it in our lifetimes.

We are already paying, by the way. Poor people and the uninsured are already flooding the health care system. Go to any emergency room almost any time of day to see the poor, the unemployed, illegals, you name it, they are already in there 50 or more deep. We really don't have a homeless problem in my local area nor are there a lot of poor people--until you go to the emergency room. These people don't care about Michael Moore or insurance or what it costs, they have bypassed all that and gone to the hospital. It's the rest of us who pay our HMO premiums (and taxes!) and then get dicked-around by our HMOs. Somebody tell me who's the smart one here?

By the way, anybody see the story about the Mexican lady who died on the floor of an ER waiting room in Los Angeles a few days ago? Witnesses even called 911 from the waiting room as she vomited blood and died and no one from the hospital staff (as far as we know at this point) did anything to help her. The 911 operator put the blame on the caller! There's probably more to this story but it doesn't look good so far.

As for lawyers, they are into everything. Everything lucrative, that is. (I know, lawyers gotta' eat too.)

As for John Edwards, I am not impressed with anyone running for president in 2008. I'm still not ruling-out a late entry by Jeb Bush, say, by next spring, jumping in as the man on horse-back come here to save us. Iraq's a mess though so he may cough twice and pass this time.

We do live in interesting times.

My wife cannot get _any_ medical insurance in the U.S. because she _had_ Hep C and even though she was cured we just can't qualify. We use our AAA card to get discounts on prescription drugs. Neither of us has employer insurance. I'm holding on to my Canadian citizenship so's we can scoot back soon as something serious comes down.

This to say you dudes should maybe put aside your pre-conceived opinions of Michael Moore and listen to what he has to say about this health care situation.

I'll bet there are other folks on this website with similar stories. I've lived in Canada, England, and U.S.-- our 3 kids were born in all 3 countries -- so, I have a somewhat 'informed' opinion on the matter.

Michael Moore is an opportunist that has learned how to work the system thru "Hype" and "Hysteria" and has "Blended" himself well into "Hollywood, I can walk on water" crowd very well......I'm sure Michael Moore's Educational background qualify's him as an Expert in reference to the (I use the term Loosely) Movie's he get's involved in.........I am very amused (in general) by the people that get caught up in Hanging on to every word that comes out of a "So called" Hollywood Celebrity's mouth.....my God ...these are "Actors"....that probably couldn't hold a job at McDonalds...........Better stop now before I get into trouble.........

Just my $.02

So that's how Reagan got elected president. He couldn't get on at Mickie Dees. Has ole Fred Thompsen been rejected too? Why shoot, I'd even eat there if they'd hire ole fat Rush, and get him off the air waves. "Little ceegar ash with those fries lady"?
It's all good Whizzer. You and me don't agree on much either, but I bet we could get together and work out something for the good of everybody faster than those boys in the belt way. Respect for each others opinions and concerns, and a willingness to work together for the common good. Not Haliburton, not bp oil, not drug companies, not organized labor. The good decent folks of this great country.
As for our good friend Mr. Howie. I hope your doing well. I don't think I've ever known any Democrats to have had your affliction. Must just be something that" boils" up with that GOP anger. My gosh! If Dubya gets that immigration through, there could be butts exploding all over America. "Good night, and good luck".
