I just returned from a business trip to Chicago and I would highly recommend staying in the downtown area. There are a number of nicer hotels, Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Westin that are all pretty reasonable especially on the weekends. You will then be within walking distance or a short cab ride of most of the attractions that you will want to see, such as miracle mile shopping district, Navy Pier, etc.

I was fortunate to have a coctail reception on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building and the view was fantastic. I also had a meeting the next day in the Sears tower. I found the city much prettier and cleaner than I remembered it from about 5 years ago and the weather was fantastic.

Mark,

Morton`s is O.K. a better recommendation is Gibson`s Steak House or Rosebud....both located in Rosemont.

Dan.

Stay downtown Zedder...there is nowhere to shop in Rosemont...downtown has a million things to do...shop on Michigan avenue...any kind of food you want is there....WHERE is your business meetings...thats an important factor...if its downton...no brainer...stay downtown...no such thing as a 1/2 hour drive downtown if you need to be there early.

I like the Hilton on Michigan with a room over looking Lake Michigan and Buckingham Fountain. Its about in between The Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier (Shopping).

You gotta hit the Signature Room for dinner or Cocktails (95 Floor of the Hancock, like Copo mentioned) as well as the observation floor at the top of the Sears.

Museums are close by, Buddy Guys Blues Club is around the corner, if still open.

Food:

Best Steaks; Gene and Gorgetti's or Gibson's

Best Sea Food; Nick's Fish Market

Best Chicago Deep dish Pizza; Giordano's

Italian Food; Hit Taylor Street. No bad choice there.

Greek Food; The Greek Isles

Fondu; Geahas (sp?)

Best Choice of Cigars after hours; Tavern at Rush

Check out the play "Wicked", great for Family entertainment!

I have slept more here on visits to Chicago in the last year than in hotels and it was free!

Excellent recommendation! And within walking distance of the Sheraton, Hyatt Regency, etc.

Also, for an 'interesting dining experience' ............. check out the Billy Goat.

Thanks again guys for the recommendations...we'll check out some of those restaurants for sure...Stefano, the pizza joint was on our list so it is good to hear that it is worth checking out

I will be staying downtown for a few nights at Solice or something like that with work and then a few days out near the airport. The kids are little, so downtown isn't a big deal for them... Thanks again,
