nascar has peaked in popularity.

the younger generation has absolutely no interest in this crap.

why no interest?

because all the drivers are robots.

now they have to dig up fossils like this guy to keep the older faithful fans from switching the channel to golf, which is about as exciting as a NASCAR race.

NASCAR (and NHRA, etc.) has gotten so corporate that people are getting turned-off. All the logo placement and the "I gotta' thank Home Depot, Pizza Hut, UPS, Mrs. Butterworth's," crap makes them all sound the same. I watch "Back in the Day" with Dale Jr. and it's fun to see real men--racing cars you can identify--in T-shirts and smoking Winstons and getting dirty.

And another thing: Today everything is "awesome." "My car was awesome, my crew was just awesome, and I gotta's thank my awesome wife--she's just so awesome." Thank God for the MUTE button.

Okay Bruce, I agree with that particlular application of the word "awesome." You're awesome too!

I have a "walked away" VHS from 1990 that my son loves.

Agreed!! If everything was so 'awesome' during their interview, why didn't they win the stupid race. I would like to hear the 'no-spin' interview - oh yea, you have to listen in on the crew's headsets for the truth!

I'd like to see the corporate logo's replaced with creative names that elude to a corporation, ie; take the 'Corn Flakes' off of the Kellog car, and name it 'Flaked Out' or something. This is now corp. 'A' racing against corp. 'B' - which becomes a money war, which promotes 'who cares'.

Remember when whats-his-name ran out of fuel on the last lap of the Indy 500 a few years ago? I think he was leading and the car went kaput in turns 3 and 4. He was yelling the f-word repeatedly as the car coasted toward the entrance to the pits and his transmissions were broadcast live! It was hilarious. "F______K, IT'S OUT OF GAS!!! F_________K!!!"

After attending the 1988 daytona 500 I hadn't missed a race for 14 years. When Earnhardt passed in Feb 01 it was difficult to watch, but New Yorkers had Steve Park. When he got whacked in Sept 01 I could finally see the races for what they were with no one to root for.
The personalities are definetly lacking today, NASCAR's cautions of convenience are nonsense and the cookie cutter 1.5 mile tracks are great for my insomnia.

Now I can skip the race and the get 5 min highlight reel.

I have to agree with ya on this one marlin.Without the likes of earnhardt and rusty Wallace;the guys that got there the hard knock ways;I don;t care too much to watch /nextel either.I plan on moving to Statesville,NC.In a few years ;and well be closer to attend the SC show and races and the Pure stock muscle car dragrace;with my 68 nova ss 396/350hp car(matching #) and my other 68 nova ss 396/375 nova 4speed,matador red car.
