Well maybe Andy, partly true. We raised 4 hard working boys and we are proud of them. Have 2 in the National Guard as we speak. I believe the young kids do not want to do this/that kind of work. Very hard to get our kids to learn a trade or a craft in this country. If they are not in an office or behind a desk they feel they are not successful in this day and age. That leaves all the real blue collar type work to the foreigners. It mainly started in California and the deep South with migrant workers but has become nation wide now. I don't go anywhere.....vacation, out to eat, buying gas, donuts, coffee etc. that there is not at least 75% foreigners or immigrants working. I hate to tell you but it is NOT going to go back to the old days. Better work some OT and get your kids a good education cause that is where it is at right now and even that is no security in this changing market and trend.

kids that work for me just have that deer with headlights on look when im trying to make them better at their job.

absolutely no focus,it seems like that cell phone is melting a hole in their pocket.

my generation wasnt much better,i guess. we had marijuana to make us lazy.

I say as soon as they come across the boarder ship them to Iraq like they did to the immagrates during Viet Nam... Just think, your not going to stop them and they want to be here so let them fight for their freedom...

NO,NO. I did not take offense. I agree with you. My wife and I are just lucky I guess. Most kids today have no skills. They can work a computer and a cell phone but can't and won't dig a ditch or mow a lawn.

Its not so much the kids fault - but what is lacking in a lot of parents. We have become complacent as a nation and feel this type of work is beneath us. Maybe you can't survive on that level of wages, but it doesn't mean you should look down on that type of work.
If you don't take the time with your children to instill a good work ethic they are not going to pick one up in school. You can be just as lazy writing programs as you can be mowing lawns!
Is it our fault for not making our kids go out and get a summer job, but buying them everything they need?
I was pumping gas in a Shell station 5 nights a week from 9th grade on. It afforded me my cars and parts. It taught me to provide for myself. There are very few entry level jobs that give you a Jag to drive to work. There is a rude awakening coming for many graduates.
Today to many parents just buy their kids whatever they want just to not have to listen to it, and the kids wind up the losers in the end.

WOW Dog....you said it right! I guess if we were those types of employers we would not want those kids working for us either. Some day maybe these kids will wake up and smell the coffee! I pumped gas from about 67-71 and also collected trash for a few years too. Good money in the late 60's and it kept me lean and mean throwing those trash cans around.......unlike I am today.

We have too many kids going for useless degrees. Everyone thinks they have to go to college now, and no one wants a job that requires actual physical labor. The market is getting flooded with kids with useless degrees who are getting paid next to nothing. Meanwhile the guy driving a bulldozer, or doing machine work makes more money than they do.

Yep, useless degrees to flip burgers or sell mens suits in a dept. store. I am glad I don't live in Florida.
