[ QUOTE ]
That is the difference between the Z16 and 66 L72 air cleaners as far as I know. The LT1 air cleaner has a groove in the base and the snorkels attach much differently. Jason [/ QUOTE ] I bought an air cleaner base and lid similar to yours about 20 years ago from someone advertising in Hemmings Motor News. It also had a black lid and black sticker. When I received it, it was in great shape... it just needed to be refinished. I had it powder coated and had the lid chromed. I still have it to this day, and never used it. Where is the groove you speak of and how are the snorkels attached? I would like to know if I have one for a 427 car. Tony |

Tony, The bottom of an early air cleaner does not have a groove in the bottom of it. The snorkels on a late aircleaner are tack welded the the outside of the housing. The early snorkels have a lip on the inner part of the snorkel towards the base. There is a thread on this site from about a year ago about this subject with pictures and all.

Jason,
I had to go dig mine out of storage... now I see the difference. I have the later one with the 1/2" wide groove on the bottom... which I guess is correct for my car. Thanks, Tony |

Just listed another. This one is just as nice. It has been stripped to metal to take the mystery away.
No Reserve Air Cleaner on EBay Thanks, Jason ![]() |
