Going to look at a 71 SS454 this weekend and wanted to know what you guys thought. The guy that owns it bought it from the original owner and has been sitting for 20 years. Original paint, interior, engine, trans, rear end, 84,000 miles. He's asking $20,000. I don't know Chevelles so all input is welcome. Here are a few pics from when the current owner picked it up in 2000. It has been sitting in his garage since then. Thanks Mike

Our son bought a '65 Acadian Canso with less than 26K miles on it and had sat for about 6 years. It had seen no winters so, other than dust, under the hood, it was rust free. I pulled the gas tank and it was a rusty mess inside. The only cure for this is a new tank and sender unit. We changed all fluids, belts, and hoses. I put a kit in the carb. The brake line flex hoses should also be changed on cars this old for safety sake if nothing else. Running the car, we found that the valve guide seals were still ok and the rings were not stuck on the pistons. The engine worked fine. Seals can dry out from sitting and cause all kinds of leaks, but then Chevys leaked when new. You pretty well have to pull the engine to do any kind of a decent job of detailing it and the engine compartment. I've also found that rear axle and pinion seals tend to leak after sitting for a long time. Don't even drive the car. Just change them before you soak your brake shoes. I do. This is all stuff to be aware of. Even if you had to spend another $10K on the car, you could probably make money on it. SS454s don't come cheap any more.
