njsteve:
Were all Pontiac Motor Division delivery cars executive orders? I have a 1969 T/A and the PHS shows it delivered directly to PMD. By the way, I've been following your restoration and it's awesome! Thanks, Ed

They could be anything from the steno pool secretary ordering her new car, to the President of Pontiac to a zone office press car. If it was to be delivered to them it would usually say "Pontiac Motor Division." My old Z11 pace car was a zone office press vehicle and it's docs showed it being delivered to "Chevrolet Motor Division" with the accompanying zone office code (14000 if I remember correctly)

I have had Pontiac info poured into my head with a fire hose today. I spoke with Jim Mattison for a good long while today and he supplied me with very straightforward answers to my questions on this particular unit. The short version is it is a 70 T/A. There you have it! Another important note is it does not appear to have been an executive tag unit and even if a lower status employee had ordered it, it would have reflected the associated employee discount on the paperwork. Most likely, if an executive had ordered it, it would have been loaded with options. Also, Steve is correct about another point. If it had been an executive tag unit, it most likely would have been delivered to the PMD store and not a store in Detroit although Packer was a 'high profile' dealership (like Royal).
Bottom line, in my opinion, this is a very nice car with documentation that proves what it is, a nice T/A with neat colors. The current owner states it has the original engine, tranny and rear axle it was born with. I didn't look for myself so I can't verify that. It has been nicely restored, but, how many of the component numbers match this car (exa. fan clutch, exhaust manifolds, ball joints, etc.) I couldn't say. Another neat thing about it is the low mileage (17,XXX) and the owner says he has mileage statements to prove it. I am out on the car. If anyone else is interested, shoot me an email or PM and I'll give you his contact info. ![]()

Did the 70-72 2nd gen Pontiacs have the 73 and newer style camaro console in them? [/ QUOTE ] That's a very Camaro-centric veiw of the situation. ![]() |

That is a beautiful car and if the drivetrain checks out as original and the cowl tag confirms the color combination, it would be nice addition to anyone's garage. (insert appropriate amount of envy here)

As an owner of a 71 T/A, I can tell you this car, from afar, looks to be in great condition. I can attest, after attending car shows throughout the west, that 70-73 T/A's are rare. What's more, T/A's in this condition are even rarer. If the price is right, and the mileage checks out, it might be a good buy.
