John...Yes it is the heat shield. From what I have found, only Cal built and sold in Cal, Ariz, New Mex had the shield. They are different from the BB ones too.I don't know if other years used them.

Hey the heat plate has code number match to your car..
Mine is matching to my car..I have extra plate that replica of mine..
