1967 Camaro Indy Pace Car License plate

I honestly do not know Marlin. If its not worth anything than I am going to keep it. The guy I spoke to said he had to reproduce exact copies of my license plate because he could not find an original for him and his pace car buddies. Whether it was a novelty item or original item, I do not know.

I'm not sure, I think I remember mr70 had the inside track on these plates

This plate was originally issued in 1968 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Chevrolet Truck.
It was a small way for Chevrolet to express their thanks to the Indianapolis plant,as well as pat
themselves on the back for 50 years of production.
They were not related or meant for the pacecars in anyway.
They can still be found,mostly by technicians and employees who hoarded them back then,as they were given out free.
I think they were also offered over chevy parts counters then,and they were being reproduced not too long ago too.

Besides the obvious color differences, I see at least those two are different where the the big 1 meets the bowtie...are the repop ones aluminum? .

I wouldn't mind a repop one for my Deuce - being as it's an Indy sold car. I need to donate my 'Back our Boys in Vietnam' plate to my Y-Camaro owning 'nam buddy!

Despite who the plates were made for-they were used on the Official festival Camaros in 1967 in service at the indy 500. There are plenty of original speedway photos that document the usage by the Indy zone on the track cars.

Can you post some vintage track pics?
I do have some flyers/bulletins somewhere showing what I stated earlier,as well as from talking to others about these plates in the past.
What you say does make sense,as the earliest I have found these plates released could've been spring of 67,(INDY 500),to be ready for the 1968 Fall truck release.
Maybe they served a dual purpose then?
