1967 Impala SS 396 4 speed; need your input

speaking with the owner again tomorrow to get more detail, talked to him today, he has had the car for seven years, second owner but no paperwork. claims he verified originality when he bought it. what are the best ways to verify SS pedigree? I have a camaro ss with all supporting paperwork which makes it easy though want to make sure I do homework to make sure it is real deal.
Car is complete, running and missing nothing. paint is strong but could use a re-do, needs headline, and some lite interior work, nothing major. all trim in tact.
