D80 didnt show up on tags until sometime in May. But this tag is such an obvious fake, it probably doesnt matter anyway.

Reproduction Bodies, repro Tags, what next, reproduction Engines with correct broach marks and stampings? I guess if there is enough money in it people will do anything.

Already long here and I hate the term personally but they're called "Restoration Engines" and even accepted in Corvette circles as Ok. .
In reality it's a "perfect forgery" restamp and a way to skirt saying so. .
It's also the way to term it amongst those in the know yet those who don't get duped so when they find out the truth they can either admit it's a forgery or join the 'liars' club! .

The "Corvette" guys mastered the art of rebroaching (the complete top of the block if need be)stamping/and even aging the stampings, a long time ago.

Stefano,

If that is true, then why does the NCRS make such a big
deal about broach marks? It's often a topic of discussion
there.....

Stated another way, if the broach marks & stampings can
be "cloned" easily enough, why do they make such a fuss?

The broach marks can be reproduced, and the engine can be restamped.
However there is a large database of numbers from almost EVERY SINGLE day of production.
Still hard to fool the experts with access to that knowlege.
IMO the repro stuff always looks too perfect.

Here is a well known pad "recreation", that looks very good.

I thaught that even if the deck was restamped, broached and looked perfect- a deck height measurement would give it away as a redecked block? True?
