Interesting difference in the story on my local news station & MSNBC.
I had no idea by the local news that the Stingray's tail penetrated Steve's heart ...
all they say is that he died from getting 'stung'. (sounding like a bee sting)
I didn't think the Stingray poison was that bad, but when it goes directly into your heart .... well.

He will be missed.

By the way, I caught a croc' on vacation last week ...

not quite as big as the Australian version, but cool.

I'll miss his shows. I hate to see a child lose their father.

They have this fatal moment on Videotape, but won't release it to the media.
Apparently it shows Steve being stung, and then removing the stingray barb from his chest, before he passes into unconsciousness.

Don't know if it would have made a difference given the venom on the spike but the first thing they teach you in trauma medicine is NEVER pull the knife, fork, steel rebar, etc., out of a wound. While it's still in there, it's plugging the hole and limiting the blood loss.

Steve,

I agree. However, when you look down and see a 6"-8"
spike sticking out of your chest, your first reaction
would be to just pull it out. I know that would be my
first reaction.
