I glass bead the entire unit, hot soak/bathe, dry and then I use a brake hone with light machine oil and hone the cylinder out followed by another hot bath. Rebuild kits are readily available for under $30. The cylinders can be rebuilt and restored in just a few hours. I finish with a combination of cast iron colored paint and semi flat black followed by a buffing of the machined surfaces. They look NOS when done.
