good thought, although i would like to concentrate on the restoration of the "blue mule", maybe a guy should have two copo camaro's.

i originally saw another 1969 camaro done in burnished brown several years before purchasing this copo camaro and decided then, that when done right , it really looks good.
recently i saw a very original 1969 chevelle in burnished brown, it looked super as well. i guess the key is getting the right guy to apply the color, thank's to ken schoenthaler. alan ![]() |

Please do not take this as a negative comment -
Just wondering if that is a Gardner exhaust or some other brand? The mufflers look different, as do the clamps and the "crimp" bends on the pipes. Looks like the Walker exhaust that you used to be able to buy. The rear muffler clamps are certainly wrong, wrong plating and they are a modern design. I only ask to learn, as this system looks nothing like the Gardner systems I have installed, unless they have changed them and this is more correct. Last Camaro one I installed was on my ZL1 last year...just curious. If you don't ask questions, you don't learn, right? Looks like a nice car. Good luck with the sale. Colin |

Hi-Perf Cars Aug 69 has a nice feature on ZL1 #3 with several excellent photos. One of them is undercarriage shot of the axle & exhaust system, the only such photo I know of.
To compare: The driveshaft is not original. ZL1 #3 was built with a standard dual exhaust system with resonators; the chambered was added when Billy P owned it. In the photos there is not a wrinkle to be seen; all mandrel-bent. OE systems had the front pipes welded to the resonators, there are no clamps. The rear clamps are different and the threaded portion of the U bolt extends very slightly beyond each nut. It also appears the rear axle flange is painted black. John Z has stated this area was masked when the axle was painted. By the way axles were painted with the brake drums installed; they should be black same as the axle. There are a number of vintage photos showing black drums. Cast blast is not correct. The car looks outstanding and apperars to be an excellent restoration. Good luck with the sale!

hello colin,
according to the gardner exhaust people, who made the system for this copo 06A, it is correct right down to the clamps. the mufflers may look different because the system is a late system built to be correct for this june car, it actually has three mufflers as part of the complete exhaust system, the two in the picture and a third, tucked up near the fuel tank. the pic's i have from gardners web site of other systems which they have built, appear to have the same type of clamps which they supplied to my mechanic for the installation. thx, for the input, alan ![]() |
