If that guy from Australia is showing up I guess I can´t claim the long distance price. But I will be bringing my 14-year old daughter, that doubles the distance doesn´t it ?

Anyone else bringing their young ones ?

A 14 year old Swedish Beauty among a bunch of Midwestern farm boys!!!!!
You better keep that young lady close to your side at ALL TIMES!

That's very to hear. Kendall (Bad1racing) brought his family last year and it sounds like they had a great time. Seriously, it's a great atmosphere and everyone is pretty well behaved. Just keep her away from Barnhart; kids seem to disappear when he's around!

Yep...it is a great atmosphere...especially talking to that Cumby guy! Here's to you DC

Edit: By the way...I got the new laptop (Dell- about $450)
and will be able to download all the pics and post every night (If in my advanced age I can stay awake long enough)
barring any networking problems, that is.

If that happens, then I'll be in DC's room using his network

Yeah, you're just easily fooled!

You're more than welcome to use our room for the downloads. Maybe I can learn a thing or two at the same time.

So are you bringing Holly?

Not this year...We might do the family thing next year

DC, will you have wired or wireless connection in your room? I have to cover all my bases, you know!

I do have high speed connection (wired) in my cheapo hotel room...I just hope that it works!

Seems like it's wired. Never having used it, I can't recall. Hey Charley, can you tell us?

Maybe I'll bring my wife's laptop and you can conduct a seminar? Actually, she will be attending a conference at the Holiday Inn Friday morning when we head to the track so she'll probably have it with her anyway.

Might need some pointers on the new camera as well.

IIRC, they have both...wireless or hard wired...worst case scenario you could go to the business sweet and upload it on the public pc's...

Seminar on what??? I can do the picture posting thing...I'll be glad to help you with the new camera, too!

I really don't want to bring up the fact that I've spent the last day and a half trying to figure out why I couldn't connect my laptop to my hard wired home network though my router

Here's what I posted on DellTalk...their customer support forum...

[ QUOTE ]
I just bought an Inspiron B130 Laptop...and received it yesterday. I have a wired router (Siemens 2614...old, I know) and have 2 Dell desktops currently running on my home LAN The main computer is plugged into port one. The second desktop is plugged into port two. Both desktops are running XP home. My problem is that when I plugged the new laptop into my 3rd port...it wouldn't show that there was any connection at all...or that it even recognized that it was there.

So, I did a bit of testing. I took the second desktop computer (which was plugged into the second port of my 4 port router) and moved it to the third port (which was where I tried to hook up the laptop) and the second desktop got connectivity right away. I tried to hook up the laptop to the second port...and nothing. I tried the laptop on the 3rd port again...nothing there!

Finally, I took the laptop to my daughters room, where the wall plug for the second port of our home LAN comes out...and plugged the new laptop in there. I got a connection right away...so, I don't get it?

What could be my problem? I will be using this laptop when I go out of town on business, so I'd like to become familiar with what I need to do to get connectivity. I was able to log into my router last night...but didn't do anything but "reset" it.

One other question if I may...When I initially set up the laptop yesterday, I got a message that there were 4 wireless networks in my area that had a signal (1 bar). Only one looks to be protected. Can someone point me to some good reading regarding setting up a secure wireless network? In the next few months, I may switch to a Linksys 4 port wired/wireless router...but I will not do so until I fully understand how to keep myself protected.

Thanks again for any and all help/suggestions offered.

Bruce

And here's what I finally figured out was wrong....DOH!

[ QUOTE ]
Hey, I figured it out...call me stupid. I had the laptop ON while I was trying to plug into the router. Once I plugged everything in with the laptop OFF, then turned on the laptop...It worked! In fact I'm on the internet now on the laptop.

Thanks again for the help Steve! Now to tackle the reason why I can't see any of the other computers on the network. I'm going to check the firewall settings and make sure that file sharing is turned on and go from there.
