One of my favorite garage wall art items is an ad for the 1968 Chevy line up. It is titled “Some cars fake it These cars make it”.
It shows a Red 1968,,,396 equiped,,,hidden headlight beauty in the foreground. At the top of the ad the cars are described; ‘Camaro SS with ralley sport equipment’ Hence SS/RS Take the 1968 Camaro sales brocure,,Again on the cover Red 396,,Hidden headlight car, described as:’ Camaro SS Sport Coupe with ralley sport equipment and vinyl roof you can order’. Thus SS/RS Looking at the Camaro option Packages described within,,Camaro SS Package description, they lead the potential purchaser to load up the car with options,,Re,,,”What’s that you say? You’d like an SS with all the features that come on a ralley sport (concealed headlights and the like). Easiest thing in the world. Just specify both. It’s as easy as that”. SS/RS Either way you slice it a very lucky person is one who has one (or two) by either name Just do not get me started on “ Cowl induction” AKA…”For more power, a special new intake hood is available. We call it Super Scoop. It opens on acceleration, ramming huge gulps of air to the engine” UNDECIDED! ![]() Jim 68’ SS/RS396 69’ RS/SS350 LA Pace Car ![]() |
