1968 hurst old drag car found (quick silver)

Not sure where the value is either restored stock or as a race car but certainly way cooler as a race car.

Seems like I remember a magazine article on that car from back then as well.

When i met this guy, i purchased a 1969 hurst from him he had owned since 70 that car has 40,000 miles with its original bald tires but a very nice original car never altered or abused. then he told me of this race car, he took this car apart in 1976 to freshen the paint and never put it back together, he did go to the dealer and buy all new trim and a new hood for the car because of a small dent in it, this guy really took care of his stuff, the 68 has a b title and he says he bought it as a race car in 1972. he lived in muskegon his whole life.

Wow. I've heard of this car, but don't know a lot about it. Casey may as he has a lot of old memorabilia stuff from back then as his Uncle Jack was active with a lot of these gyus.

There's a lot of old race cars tucked away all over this area that surface every now and then. One of my old bosses at Ford Engineering, Don McElroy, still has two of his in a pole barn in Fenton. Been there for 25 years. Friend of Bob Karkashian and Mike Dellahanty and drove NHRA Stock Eliminator cars for Jac McCormack for years.Both are Mopars, I think. One for sure. His 318 Duster (M Stock?) ran in the 10's.

I think the car is definitely worth more as a race car, but I would contact the Hurst Olds Club of America (Rusty Small can help here) as they have a Hurst Registry and I think know the VINS of every real one. If it is in fact a real one (and I'll bet it is), it's worth a fortune anyway you cut. There are a few other 68 Hurst Race cars going back together right now. The Chesrown Olds (Ron Garey) car is in Southern Ohio, and the Rem Ram Olds is somewhere in Western Michigan also.

Look on the Hurst/Olds Club of America websiteand get hold of Karl Sarpolis ('68 H/O Advisor). He has the list of VIN's and can help you out. I am sure that he wants to learn about this car and its condition. PM me with your phone number and I will give you a call.

Another '68 H/O race car that is going back together (as chronicled by a thread here) is the Russ Dunmire race car. It had already had a top notch resto done, but managed to imitate a barrel and rolled. I could not believe how good it is coming out of that wreck!

Thanks for your help russell, I am very sure it is an original hurst, for one the engine is the numberas match 455 and the wood on the dash, and all of the other ho parts that the car retains the trunk lid is black top and bottom (it still has the original paint on it) my first thought was to keep this car a drag car, just looking to find some history on it. Cool car with neat history. And with the original motor it makes for a tough car to restore back to original or race condition. I would lean towards race condition since it could always be put back to original later on if you wanted. But it really comes down to how you plan on using the car.

Trim tag will have Z-Z paint code too.

You should at least conact Karl Sarpolis (H/O Club) to get the car on his 68 H/O registry if it is not already accounted for.

Restore it how you will enjoy it most. I personally think there is more of a "market" for the original condition car if selling it is the idea.

These cars are so cool because not many people have ever seen one or heard of them for that matter.
