Default Re: How to tell if trans cutout for 4spd is authentic

First gen addict...Thanks, this one is Tripoli Turquoise, Its got a 375 hp TicTocTach 12 bolt no engine or trans. It looks to be an original L34-35 M-40. The sheet metal looks original. Floors uncut, no real rust. Ive got a CE 375 block and heads. The heads are dated the same and are 30 days from the block. I think it would be a real interresting project.

Are all the chevy 4 speed "underfloor sheetmetal" torched out? I seem to recall a nova? I had with the std floor torced out under the spot welded hump.

Although most 68 auto's did use a cable... there were a few TH400 floor shift with out console cars made.
They used the 67 style auto shifter with the hole cut in the floor.
It was option M11, they are quite rare.
I had a 68 RS/SS 396 325 that had the option.
Sold the car to Maryland in the early 90's.
KurtS told me that he has only heard of about 3 of them and I believe only has only seen 1.
I have the VIN of my old car if you think it may be it. It was Lemans Blue with Blue deluxe interior... in the early 90's it had 43k miles and was matching numbers.

What did they do to finish around the shifter with ? Any pics ?

Charley,
It is in the 68 assm manual. Unfortunately I did not take any pics of the car.
The bezel looked like a... errr god forbid I say this... a Mustang II auto shifter bezel. It was square and about 1" tall. the center where the shift indicator was located was arched and there was an illuminated indicator. It had the large boot like rubber seal just like the 67's.
I sold the car to MD in the early 90's. Don't have a name but have the VIN if anyone is interested in tracking it down. Was at time of sale numbers matching 43k miles RS/SS 396 325. Lemans Blue Blue Deluxe interior. Power drums, manual steering, missing the smog but manifolds were there.
