Default Re: Using rectangular port intakes on oval port he

I'm sure when you get up into the high horsepower stuff say 500+ , it becomes much more critical. But on the average 300-400hp big block it doesnt seem to matter.I had a dart oval intake on my 600 hp bracket 454,and picked up a full .01 and 1.5 mph going to a squareport victor jr.My new motor makes closer to 700hp and i'm sure my old oval dart wouldnt keep the pace.

Ok this sounds good I have oval port heads on my 68 and would like to put a 163 intake on it. What intake gasket set do you use, oval or rectangular.

Use the rectangular port gaskets or you will have a huge air leak. Snap an oil shield under the intake while you have it off. Keeps hot oil off the underside of the intake. Block the heat crossover as well.
