I couldn't find the pictures of the shackles in those links above but on my Black 68 I have shackles that have only 2 settings. I brought home A 68 for "parts" and it had shackles with about 5 settings which could give you that ugly "but end in the air" look. They were bent badly to one side which I think was common with the really tall ones.

Oh boy!!!!!!!!! Everybody gives me a hard time about my air shocks, if I had shackles they would run me out of town and off the car forums!!!!! Funny thing, back in the 70s, they worked just fine and looked okay. I guess times change, but if you're brave enough Tom, then so am I. Gonna put them on this summer.
I think the Yenko forum is the best forum around. You can mention shackles and people won't "pile on" you for being crazy. Must be the nice, mature membership here. Here is a photo of my car from '73....air shocks/shackles and L60s..... ktownkid ![]()

I'm brave enough to try anything once, well almost anything...How much lift should there be with the typical air shocks on a Nova??? They are yellow and I assume they are some common brand from the day. I just want the back to be level with the front for that "ready to jump" look...

Wilma, we would either use air shocks OR shackles - we never needed both. From what I remember, you should be able to clear L60's with air shocks alone, so check and make sure they are functioning properly and are the right shocks for your application. Personally, I never liked the look of shackles on a street car...
