I had the same dilemma when I purchased our Chevelle. Only 20K miles, but the engine compartment looked pretty crappy....and it did not have the benefit of being a California car. It had been driven (albeit sparingly) for several years in Northern IL, year-round, and then had 29 years of less-than-ideal storage conditions
 . But once you start, where do you stop? Get the engine compartment looking spiffy and then all of a sudden the chassis doesn't look so good any more. Do that, and then you start 'finding' all sorts of flaws in the paint, and on and on it goes. Like others have said, do a little gentle cleaning, drive it and enjoy it.

Agreed! I have an unrestored '69 Nova and did the cleaning and WD40 trick to it. Lots of other products out there to help with the detailing as well. (Simple Green, Castrol Super Clean, etc. .....and the old stand-by; kerosene.) I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results.
Don't over-do it; just clean her up and enjoy it.

I agree that when you start the detail job you are not going to be satisfied till you have gone from the front to the rear... now as far as the minor surface rust goes.... try this... www.safestrustremover.com
then hit it with cosmoline or boeshield.

That rust remover looks cool. Fortunatly not much in the way of surface rust in there, just dirt and missing paint. You did an amazing job of cleaning your Tuxedo RSZ up! Thanks all for the advice!
