i will not throw anything away. i just received an email from a guy who says that the car may very well be a 67 RS SS convertible car. i know very little about camaros but i guess all the signs are pointing that way. so if it is an RS SS then wouldnt it have came with the L48/M20? its got a 4P under all the trim info.

When you have a chance see if you can post pics of the trim tag and vin. You can also e-mail them to me and I will look them over for you. The trim tag option of 3L is for the RS option. The 4P can be both SS350 as well as an L30/M20 car. The L30 option is the 275hp 327. One of the notes for these is that they mroe often than not seem to have come down the line with a 12 bolt rear with a single passenger side traction arm. There are two types of these arms, the first early one is a round one and the second later one is a square one. These were installed to help control wheel hop that was a problem on these cars due to the shock mounting style (both on front side of axles). They corrected the problem for good in 68 when they went to the staggered shock system. In the absence of riginal paperwork I do not know of any way to tell the difference between the L30 and the SS. If the car does have the original engine though you will be able to tell by the stamping. The L30 engine will have a code ending with MK without smog and ML with. If it is an SS 350 car it will have MS for non smog and MT with. Thse four designations are for 3/4 speed cars only. I hope this helps.

There is a difference between the ss 350 (L48/M20) and the L30/M20 as to the location of where the speedometer cable exits the firewall. The ss 350 had a muncie 4 speed where the L30/M20 had a saginaw 4 speed. On the muncie equipped cars, the speedometer comes through the firewall between the steering column and the transmission tunnel. On an L30/M20, the speedometer cable will go through the firewall on the other side of the steering column.

The 4P code only applies to the L30 when it is coupled with a 4 speed. Seeing that the car in question had a 3 speed transmission, it would be an SS 350 car.
