I've been having problems with Optima Red Tops ever since I relocated my battery to the trunk. If I drive the car every day or two it starts fine. If I let it sit a week I need to jump it. I've was told that its because the length of the cable is too long for the 100amp alternator to keep the battery properly charged. I've now on my second red-top. No hissing yet, but I need to take another look at my new trickle charger.

It may not be the most ethical but I decided to try and have the battery warrantied. I dug out the receipt this morning and it turns out I bought it 3 years ago today. I left the headlights and radio on all morning to drain it down. I took the battery to Interstate Battery and they tested it. It tested bad and I got a new one no charge. Now I will take the money I was going to spend on a battery and buy the right charger.
