The restored car and the other car needing restoration are different cars! The restored car pic is from another website.

Russ, isn't the unrestored car an Impala SS w/ a 427 not a SS427 car....no SS high-hood, fender gills etc? . There was someone on here a few weeks back w/ a similar car? . Is the one you're considering an L72 or L36 car? ~ Pete

Hi Pete,

The seller has the SS hood and fender grilles. Although I haven't verified them myself, he also stated that all numbers match and the motor appears to have never been out of the car. I need to pay him a visit soon and take a look for myself. The car does have the SS badges on the dash and trunk.

In this pic if the drivers side, you can see where the grilles were:

I'll post more pics after I go look at it!

I have a 68 SS 427 car. I think it is a Caprice but it has no markings on it. We bought it for a beater at lien sale back in 1978 . It was towed out of a parking lot at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. This was the car we all piled into when we were kids to go out in. Still have it sitting in a warehouse... sucker always starts right up.. this is an old picture and is actually of my 63 split but you can see the cars back end and the SS427 in the lower right ... car runs like a freight train.. used to tow my 24 foot day cruiser with it to the lake.. even while towing it would pass everything but the gas station

Van,
Do you think it is a Caprice because of the roof line? That appears to me to be an Impala SS427 Custom Coupe not a Caprice based on the rear emblem and lack of Caprice chrome. It is the rarest of the three body styles. It would be nice to see more pictures some day if you can. Here is what one looks like. The do not have much in the way of identifying markings denoting them as Impalas.68 Custom Coupe

Rick , That is exactly what it looks like. I keep forgetting to get pictures of the car when I go up to Sears Point (refuse to call it Infine...) but I will get some next time for sure. That photo is a scan from a shot taken in 1986 when the vette was being restored and is the only photo I have .

To the guys who have these cars, is the front emblem above the grille supposed to have a red bowtie or a blue one?
(I have one of each),
How are these cars to drive with manual steering?
Is there anywhere to get a new trans 4spd hump? mine is butchered beyond help.
Does anyone repop the foil red 427 decals for the side marker bezels? mine are extremely faded.
