You asked how we make the Rats run?Well,More cubes to start with, most guys are over 500,mines 511.Then its roller cams, rewoked intakes, raised exh ports, extrude hone exh manifolds, reworked carb, mandrel exh system,hi compression, some over 15 to 1. Lots of dyno time and a pile of parts in the corner of my garage that was supposed to the "magic bullet" and didnt work! It's a full time job staying ahead of the Hemi's and Buick's!!!!

WOW! To anyone not familiar with FAST racing, Wayne Nelson is the F.A.S.T class record holder at 10:59-130 MPH!
I guess I couldn't get a better guy to answer my question! I'm honored! I watched you guys at Musclepalooza II with great interest. If you are running 511 cubes that must mean you have 454 + .060 + 3/8'' stroker correct? [That's what I guessed] And if you are running gennie [074] L-88 style heads, doesn't the increased spring pressure create havoc with the exhaust stud bosses? I am building either a 496 or 511 [NOT for FAST class]myself but with the use of vintage heads [14011077 Rect OC raised ext port 'C'] personally I worried about the ability of being able to fill up a 511 with juuust a flat tappet cam and I was worried about the reportedly bad castings holding up to the increased spring pressure [your opinion?] One more question...with all the torque and no tire to speak of when, during the 1/4 mile pass can you actually go to WOT without worry of tire spin. I would think tire spin could happen even in high gear let alone second ...no? Do you think the Corvette chassis offers an advantage to traction that other Chevrolet cars don't? BTW...Congrats on the record ! |
