The pics of Bob Hamilton's racing jacket have IHRA and NHRA member patches on the sleeve. Still waiting for Bill S. (olredalert) to reply.

Kevin,

-----Just got back from B/J and an extra week in L/V. Wifey and I are celibrating our 28th anni. today as well.
-----Bob H ran all over the place but primarily NHRA. Thats where he held SS/DA record. First, I have to say that I have always followed the Briggs car as a friend in the Corvette world actually helped out the Briggs team on occasion years ago. Its one of my all time favorites!!!! On any given day back then the "Briggs" car could probably outrun "Red Alert" even though it ran a class lower (SS/EA to SS/DA). I think this probably has a lot to do with the professionalism of Ray Allen and the Briggs team. Bob Hamilton and his son were very much a weekend effort, but they did pretty well with what they had. With that said, its hard to play the "most famous" game here. To old racers like me the "Briggs" car is extremely memorable. To a whole generation of kids that were around when "Red Alert" was a model available just about everywhere its also pretty memorable. The model did an amazing job of promoting that old car up to a very high level.
-----For the years I had my fun with Red Alert I often promoted it as the most famous Chevelle in the world. Please remember, though, that I didnt know that the Briggs car existed back then. I dont think I would word my "famous" claims quite the same way today that I did back in the early 90s when the Briggs car wasnt on the horizon.
-----How about we just agree that both cars have quite a bit of notoriety, albeit for somewhat different reasons. With the price that the Briggs car just brought I now have to wonder what Red Alert would bring on the right day. Certainly not as much but it seems Red Alerts future is brighter than before B/J. Thinking about it, I guess we could say that about a whole lot of cars though!!!............Bill S
