Default Anyone here had or know of this problem

I own a 98 Chevrolet 3500 Crewcab pickup. As I pulled in my driveway last night and reached to roll the window up I felt heat! I looked over at the door panel and it was on FIRE inside!I came to a stop and tried to blow out the small flame but it would not do so!So I pulled at the area where the flame was and it was the outside electric mirror switch that was burning. When I pulled the melted switch off the flames even got bigger.I remembered I had a small fire extinguisher in the back seat area so I used it to put the fire out.It melted some wiring, electric miror switch and plug assembly and melted parts of the door panel.I contacted the dealership this morning and they say there is no recall on this.I search on the net and find numerous GM vehicles such as suburbans, tahoes etc but not my vehicle were recalled to have a fuseable link put in the wiring to prevent exactly what happend to my vehicle from occuring.I contacted GM today and gave them the information and they say that someone will call me in two days.Anyone here had this problem, should I wait to see what they say or should I go ahead and fix the truck myself.I will need to replace the wiring harness in the door, mirror switch, door panel.Right now it sets in the driveway with the battery unhooked waiting to see what GM says. The main reason I am posting this is for all that have these trucks may need to be aware of this problem.I never received any notice about any recall.I would hate for this to have happend when under the carport and me not have been there to put it out,it would have burned up my garages, and cars in the garage for sure!

Thanks

I have a 98 ext. cab. chevy, i received a recall notice early in 05 for the drivers side power mirror. it stated that there was the possibility for it to catch fire. i'll see if i can find the recall notice. i kept a copy of it for my records.the dealer replaced the switches and who knows what else.

Deal firmly with these folks if they give you any answer other than "we're sorry for any inconvenience, we will be repairing your truck immediately, please allow us to let you use a similar truck in the mean time" Recall or not, this is inexcusable and is a distinct safety issue. Press up the chain until you get satisfaction as necessary. This is THEIR problem, don't touch the vehicle. Good luck.

I am not touching it! I have taken pictures of the damage,I am just glad that it happened with me in the vehicle! If the vehicle had been parked normally where it is the garages surely would have been caught on fire also.I have a feeling I am going to get a song and dance but I can sing and dance pretty darn loud!LOL. I just wanted this to get around so that people with similar vehicles can find out about it and maybe get the problem corrected before a fire occurs. Thanks for the responses

General Motors contacted the nearest Dealer and they sent a wrecker and just picked up the truck. So it looks like it is going to be repaired at no cost to me.For all you guys that drive a vehicle like this or a tahoe, suburban you should be concerned about this problem.
