I really hate to bash on anybody's car,but I sort of have a bag gut feeling about this one.
I dont know if anybody remebers, but a while back{a year ago maybe} there was a very rusty 2nd gen camaro listed on Ebay a few times. The car was in upstate New Yory, and was a brown with tan interior{Brown outside definite, brown inside I am not sure} RS/SS camaro with a missing 396 engine and trans. One thing I remeber is that the car was brown and rusty from one end to the other. Now this car pops up and all the brown body panels look about as brown and as rusty as the car I remeber, but the white panels on the car seem to be both old and rusty and not what I remeber of the car the first time it was listed.I wonder if somebody just swapped the trim tag and some parts or if they swapped all the hardware.Does anybody remember the car I am speaking of,or know the history of the car I am linking? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/70-1-2-CA...1QQcmdZViewItem |

Seeing that car is an 06C Norwood car and he is claiming original BB car the trim tag should read Z27 and the engine designation. Seeing that no L78 cars came with A/C the trim tag would read "Z27LS3". I don't see anything on the tag that would indicate what he is claiming.
For $2k someone is getting a pretty good project car. Rick H. |

The cowl tag should have a L-34 or L-78 if a norwood built car. The z-27 came along in 71. If it stays in that price range it's not a bad buy IMO

Even if it were a small block SS the "Z 27" would be on the tag of a NOR car of that year. I looked pretty hard at that tag to see a trace of anything in that area...my guess is that it's a standard 8 cyl. RS coupe (if the front end hasn't been swapped that is).
Rick and Ken just got my head scratching a bit though. What was the starting/ending(?) point of the use of BOTH Z27 and the BB code on the same tag? I've seen them both ways but never factored build date into the equation. Here's a 71 LS3 example that I had a pic of: ![]()

I got to thinking about this (dangerous sometimes) and I am trying to find a few pictures of 1970 tags I have. I remember clearly seeing the L78 on the 70 tag and I thought I saw one (1970) with Z27L78. It could have been a late car but not sure.
Another I have seen (and I have the picture) is the designation in two locations. One next to the build date i.e. 05EL78 (which would have made me believe it was both SS codes together) and by itself under the paint code. Why would that be? Also a good point was brought up that the SS did have 3 different option codes, L48, L34 and L78 for 1970. Was just the engine RPO used throughout 1970 or was the SS RPO Z27 used for the L48 option and other tags had just L34 and L78 to designate the higher option? I would like to see some different 1970 SS tags. As a side not the seller has updated his auction to say he's not sure if it is a BB because he is not familiar with these cars. I agree that it is just a base car but it does have potential. Rick H. |

Rick, Would you mind posting a picture of the (05EL78) trim tag.
I am glad to see he updated the ad, That was definitely a Base Model.

No problem, here it is.
![]() Like I said above I have also seen the L78 under the paint code like you would find on a Z28 tag. Rick H. |

All the 70 models I have seen have the L34/78 on the tag and the 71 and 72's have the Z27 designation. As proven here before anything is possible I guess.

I now see that the tag doesnt indicate that it isn and SS or a bigblock,so I guess there is no fraud here other then maybe a litle misled advertising. My concern was that there was a bonafide real bigblock camaro from that area on Ebay a while back, the ca was a brown with white stripe and tan interior split bumper SS/396 car and it was a rust bucket with no engine.I was hoping that somebody didnt yank the tags off a real car and sent it to the scrapyard. It doesnt look like that was the case.

Wow, That is weird. Most Norwood L78’s are stamped under the paint code.
hear is mine... ![]()
