Pics you dont get to see often

You can see the SR-71 Trainer (with dual cockpits) at the Edwards AFB,CA open houses since its flown by NASA at the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards. They usually make a low flyby and then a higher faster one

We see the U-2 come in here now and then and thats pretty neat looking plane as well.

Funny story about Edwards...my cousin and I went out to Cal. on a spur of the moment trip to go see the Monterey Historics many years ago...we drove the coast in a rental car from L.A. We cruised back north after the races and noticed some Navy jets flying aroound...turned out to be Pt. Mugu or something like that...we scoped the map and decided we would take a drive to Edwards and take a public tour because we like this stuff. We pulled into the drive and as we pulled forward to the gate the guy posted there presented arms to us and asked us just what the hell we were doing there ? We said we just wanted to take a tour of the base and see what was on static display...he said " Sir this is not a tourist attraction. please turn around and leave". Well we kind of sheepishly got out of there and felt like morons but on the way out we were driving and noticed a crapload of satellite/tracking antennas on the mountain or hillside near there and figured there must be some kind of weird stuff going on there...this was probably 1990 or so !!

You should have been there when the rocket motor blew up on the far side of the base

I was there for that one and the B-1 landing on the lake bed with its nose gear retracted. Stationed there from 87-91.
So were you there?

Could have, we used to let the ladies from town through the gates to come to the airmans club.
Quite often I could be found over at the auto hobby shop. Which was run by a gruff, foul man named Harry who could have played that guy on "Christine".

There is an SR-71 at the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio
