I see that Dave the R code on the tag and the F code on the apron , but what does that star mean?

It's the asterick to indicate certain conditions apply....ie. you're driving a Ford?? ~ Pete

The Star simply indicates the beginning and the end of the VIN. Example:*674005432168* I assume this way someone could not add digits at the beginning or the end as the VIN was simply pounded into (Of all Places) Radiator Supports and inner fender sheetmetal. Both of which were commonly replaced after Front end collision damage. Not one of FORD's "Better Idea's"!!
