Al, there were two Citrus Green Deuces sold new out of Sam Leman Chevrolet in Roanoke, IL. Both were 4 speeds and one had power steering. The one without PS is the one pictured above owned by Phil Guilbault and is beautifully restored. The other was in IL the last I heard but was for sale???

Detective Peters, who can you guess it was that called him?

Thanks for that info... i believe the 1st owner lived in the ottawa il. area... can't really remember if the car had power steering or not as its been a very long time.. but remember that there was no carpeting, a bench seat, radio, heater, dome light, and the car had traction bars, LT1 decals on the hood but the motor was just rebuilt and not the original LT1, had ansen sprint mags, and no extra gauges except hood tach..so is there away i could contact the 2 guys phil and ?? about their cars.. might be very interested in maybe purchasing the one for sale if it really is for sale.. just need a few names, numbers and locations..phils car look excellent and could be my old one [if it was he did a super job on the body as it was a bit rough at the time i sold it.. needed front fender, bumper, frame horn, headlight bucket, and repair a dent on roof above windshield and small dent in rear 1/4 near side light]..can't remember names or places but believe the car stayed in il for a few yrs then sold to ??? i can't really remember but i believe the person who called said he was from the detroit area but not 100% sure... like i said if i can contact or they can contact me maybe i could find out.. so any info contact me here or email at [email protected] thanks for all the help sofar and i love this site .. Hi Al,
I believe the car pictured above is your old car. This citrus deuce has had approx. 19 owners, and has been in several states. This car even spent time in Wyoming with an owner who was going to school out there, another owner I believe might be 'upstate', and a few owners were simply collectors. This car was owned twice by a dealer in Indiana, and I believe a dealer in New Jersey before ending up with a collector in Wisconsin. Phil purchased the car from the collector in Wisconsin, and re-restored the car.

When restoring it Phil found some damage to the front end and the roof. Apparently a previous owner had taken out a mailbox post or something, and bounced it off the roof.

The draggin deuce was a white striped citrus version.

Thanks guys!!!!!!!! Phil drop me a line sometime so we can talk..would like to know more about the cars history..Yea the dent and front end damage was my fault as i went for a wild ride through a ditch after hitting 2nd gear on a slippery country blacktop road .. gotta fence post and a pole back up onto the road and found out the damage..was still drivable but looked terrible.. never had a chance to fix it right due to several personal issues at the time and eventually sold it [big mistake on my part]..Phil did a great job on it and i hope he's happy with the car .. 19 different owners...is that a yenko record?? again thanks for all the very quick help and info..you guys are good!!!!Al Lewis

Per our records, 19 owners is indeed the most for a single Yenko Deuce!

The Yenko in Ottawa Il was owned by Jim Olendorf (spelling) his father owned Ottawa Engine for years. He bought the car from the original owner, also from Ottawa, I think his name was Baumgarts. I had the chance to buy this car in the mid 80's but I was sure he would want more than I could afford at the time. I was wrong, he ended up selling it for $2500 to I believe a guy from the Chicago area that had a few others Yenko cars. (This is what Jim told me later) The guy came back looking for the original engine which Jim told him that it was in a speed boat owned by a guy that owned Carlson's body shop. I heard the guy pursuaded him to part with it. On his way out of town with the engine he stopped in to thank Jim and inform him that it was the last Yenko II made. So I believe it is the last one on the VIN list from Sam Lehman's. It was Citrus green with a 4 speed and bench seat.
I sure would like to know who ended up with this car, I could tell a few stories about some street racing in the late 70's and early 80's that this car won.

Perhaps this CG Deuce from Ottawa IL was the "Draggin Deuce" then????? Plenty of people from Ottawa came up to Oswego Dragway to race.
