Blackfoot, Matthews Southern Comfort, Steeler's Wheel/Gerry Rafferty, and the Chi-Town Boys.... Alliota, Haynes and Jeremiah. "Trippin' on down on LSD, Friday Night trouble bound..."

Since ya'll have mentioned most of the Southern rock bands, I thought I would through out a couple more: Charlie Daniels, Wet Willie, 38 Special and Elvin Bishop. All the talk about the Allman Bros and no one has mentioned Dickey Betts yet!!!
One of the best songs Dwayne Allman did was on his Anthology album, "Happily Married Man". "Ain't seen my wife in two or three years. I'm a happily married man" James

Back in the 70's Bruce Springsteen use to play in this little dump down the street called "Le Garage" before he was famous, Also remember John Bon Jovi and others hanging out at garden State music before he hit the big time, I was in his first video at Seaside park. George Thorogood also played locally at a place called Joe Pops. Actually many famous musicians played at Pops, anyone here ever go to the place in Ship Bottom on LBI? As for Southern Rock, Skynard was the ultimate, Sweet Home Alabama will rock on forever

Haven't noticed anyone mentioning Ten Years After, Chicago Transit Authority, Canned Heat, Hendrix, how about the first heavy metal band, Black Sabbath, and the first heavy metal hit, Iron Man?
Or non-rockers who were cool, like CSNY, Dylan, and the Band??

Hey, you need to include SRV there for your instrumental!! While he may be the King of Blues (IMO), ya still can't beat The age of the "Doors" and of Course - the sounds of "Motown". ---Eric Clapton played in the Garden this past weekend in a two nite comeback with "Cream". My brother in law paid $1500 beans for a ticket, said it was worth every penny.

[/ QUOTE ] Superb taste in music. I've been playing guitar 25+ years, and I cut my teeth on SRV. I had the priveledge of seeing him twice live before his untimely passing...words can not describe the talent that man had. It wasn't just music eminating from his guitar & amp, it was his very soul pouring out. I still get chills whenever I hear "Riviera Paradise", "Life By The Drop", "Voodoo Child", and most of all, "Little Wing." On Little Wing, if you have your stereo cranked up to about 14 ( ), you can hear the faint buzzing of his tube amp in the background.Gone, but never, ever forgotten. ![]() |
