Sounds like a float. Sometimes the brass floats will give it up.

Check for pin holes in the float.
We had a similar issue in the '70 after we changed the carb. The float would fill up with gas and sink. There was no gas coming into the bowls. It could be a similar issue. Every time we would move the car or come to an abrupt stop the car would stall.

Dan you got me scratchin my head...A float that don't float floods the carb...if its set too low it will uncover the primary jets on a hard stop...

Charleys vacumm advice is a good one...we just had the booster crack in my bro's truck..it was erractic when it first failed.
