Too bad it is not a Z/28. This car started life as an SS 396/325 car. Not much left... Would be a good money pit or a great driver quality race car.

It's amazing that the trim tag was left alone and never removed, after all of the changes that this car went through.

The car does not have any race history in the Trans-Am series (at least prior to 1973) and as such is not eligible to run with real Trans-Am cars in HMSA (see www.historictransam.com). That is why the bids have stayed low and the car has not been snapped up.

I dont' understand how it ever got past tech inspection. I don't see any forward tubing extensions from the roll cage forward into the engine compartment. If nothing else with out a cross bar between the upper arms it would not handle worth a damm.
My 69 Vette is a ex Trans-Am entrant back in '78. Would that allow me to enter a vintage Trans-Am event? Pantera ![]()

Pantera,
If you have the "brass tag" ID you'd be able to.

I thought you needed proof that it was raced in that particular time frame(69-71) to be able to race in vintage racing. A 69 Corvette that didn't get raced until 78 probably wouldn't qualify for the vintage racing. That's the impression I got from talking to people but who knows for sure?

1973 is the cut off for a true vintage race car as things started to get really radical at that time. A car with history prior to 1973 is vintage eligible in all venues and cars with later history or cars that have been built to vintage race standards can race in many venues.
I raced a 1968 Z28 at Road America in 2004 and this car was built from a roller in the 80's. Certainly no vintage race history, but built to conform with the rules. Many if not most of the cars that raced last weekend at Texas World Speedway for the CVAR event never saw a race track in the 60's or 70's. The Monterey Historics only allow cars with proven race history, no currently built stuff at Laguna Seca. |

Steve Earle who runs both the Monterey Historics and the Wine Country Classics in Sonoma hand picks all the entrants for these venues.I know a guy who has a vintage IMSA Chevy Monza but they wouldn't let him run because he has a modern fuel injection system on it.
They get pretty picky on who makes it and who doesn't. I know another family who has a beautifully restored '69 Z/28 (one of the sharpest T/A cars in exsistance ![]() He has raced this event many times and Wine Country too.The only reason I can think of is lack of space on the grid but like I mentioned, his car has as much race history as most of the others with the exception of the Penske & Bud Moore cars.
