Chuck

On page 156 of the 1969 Camaro Factory Assembly Manual, UPC 12, Sheet A5 it shows the horns facing what would APPEAR to be REARWARD.

The horns on my 69 were facing forward in 1980 and were never off the car. The high note is on the pass side and the low note is on the drivers side right now. I just got them back fronm the horn works and Gary even said the reason why most of these horns dont work is because they were forward facing and took alll the elements into them.
There is a difference in wiring (whether you believe it or not)if you exchange each side. The factory assembly manual shows the drivers side wiring going to the rear of the horn. If I was to take the pass side horn and put it there it would go towards the front side of the horn and it would be a stretch for there to be enough slack in it to hook up.

Jonesy, Thanks for your answer "On page 156 of the 1969 Camaro Factory Assembly Manual, UPC 12, Sheet A5 it shows the horns facing what would APPEAR to be REARWARD."
and then you other responses whereas your 69 Camaro has them facing FORWARD...........
Dissapointing to me that this web site, with members having $100,000 plus restored 69' Camaros cant elicit more of a definitive response to my restoration question.....
Guess I'll just look around this Saturday at the SuperCar Reunion and do as I see...........

Thanks, Chuck Sharin

Chuck...I got the e-mail etc. Seems like people are interacting and trying to help you out...WTF does the value of some of the cars have to do with anything ?

Chuck, just because it is in the assembly manual does not mean that is the way the production line process went. I have found several "inverted" pictures pertaining to the installation of Corvette parts in the past 20 years of working on them.
That makes it doubly hard for a "dyslexic"(sp?) restorer like myself. So I would not be suprised at all for the Camaro manual to have a few also.
So what I do in a case like this is to research this from several different angels.
1. Check out original undisturbed cars.

2.Use some deductive reasoning. All chevrolet horns have a part # on them. For left and right. As is the case with chevrolet they made it easy for us to know the difference from right and left. As the right side (passenger) is even and the left side (drivers) is odd. (I may have that reversed my dyslexia acting up again)

So once you know which side goes where, you need to determine which side goes up. Here you can find 2 clues. First there is a bend on the mounting flange, and it needs to be installed with the bend in the downward position. Otherwise you would have an interference problem with the hood. Second the bolts that mount the horns on have a large serrated washer. So if you look on your horns you can see the impression from the teeth in the mounting flange.

So adding up the information you can determine for yourself, the assembly manual is incorrect in this case. If you don't belive me check out the part #'s and impressions from the washers and make the decision for yourself.

BTW this is a great site for information I "Lurk + Learn" every day. Hope this help, Rich.
