I had that thing rev'd up to 7200 rpm in high gear and what was I thinking? I was thinking, hey, this thing is at 7200 rpm and I am still losing to a g-d damn, 4-door red Impala with a 427/425 and a four speed. That's what I was thinking.

Nice one Steve!

As long as you guys want to continue the drive it vs. don't drive it argument, off topic though it may be, check this out: http://www.classicchevyandcorvetteshow.com/
Bob McDorman never drives any of these cars.
He also never puts the hood up on any of them, because that would require detailing of the engine compartment.
In the front row of Camaro's will be his ZL1. No mention will be made anywhere that it's a clone.
Personally, I like to drive my car. I refer to it as my "anti-depressant". I also tell people that since I'm sitting on the powertrain warranty, (my wallet), that it's not quite as abused as some, but more than others.
Now, having said all of that, is anyone going to bid on this ZL1, or should we just start another thread?
Andy

It is, indeed, a very tough decision to make when it comes to driving or not driving. I too have a ton of money tied up in my AMC Matador resto (all #'s match except the engine, tranny, rear end and body panels). I think, however, when it is finally restored I will drive it like it was meant to be driven. I'm gonna put my foot flat on the floor and speed shift at 2800 rpm's and hold on for dear life (because you never really know what a Matador at full throttle will do). I AM going to own the car and not let it own me.

In the meantime, I think I'll just let others decide for themselves what they should do with their own car. Drive it, don't drive it, it isn't any of my concern or business.

By the way, no need to contact me, the Matador is not for sale.

Regards,

Mark Donnally

Think of it this way. Here you are with a great car in your garage looking at it and babying it afraid to drive it as you might hurt it. Than one day you are forced to sell it and you get a great price for it, and you hand the keys to the new owner and he jumps in and smokes the tires all the way down the block with a grin from ear to ear. Would you not feel a little jealious that you never once did that?. Why keep it mint just so the next guy could enjoy it. Whats the point in having it if once in awhile you can't go out and give it what it was made for. Im not saying drive it till it blows up just run it through it's paces once in awhile, have fun life is short
