Thanks for your reply MosportGreen66.
Does anyone else have any other suggestions of brands that have worked really well? Thanks for the help. Knoxville -------------------------- 1969 Camaro RS/SS L-78 |

Actually, Chevy orange paint has a slight reddish brown tint to it. I have an original factory painted bellhousing cover and a set of low mile L89 Aluminum heads with original factory overspray paint. Both pieces match which makes me confident that the color is correct. I had a pint of Omni Urethane paint mixed to match the cover which turned out to be a perfect match.
Heads are shown here: I will take a few of the cover later. Paul

In fact, I may be able to send you a sample and you can get it mixed locally to match. Send me your address to [email protected] and I will ship you some in a small bottle. I actually bought a standard color orange but had it special tinted with additional red and black to match the original Chevy orange. You will need to buy the hardner for the Onmi Urethane paint but it will result in a better, more durable paint.

The 2K Urethane Omni paint I used was P/N MTK 60914 Red with the addition of small amounts of base Red and Black to match the original Chevy Orange. The 60914 Red paint was close to the Original based on the color chip but looked too Orange when applied on top of the original Chevy Orange.

Plasti-Kote for me to. I also used there engine primer. I have a few hundred miles on my car since painting it. Not a problem. Still looks great.

------If you are shooting out of a can, Plasti Kote is a very good choice. If you dont like the gloss hold the can back a ways for the final coat. That way it will be drier and a bit duller as well. I was just talking with John Hinckley about this very subject and he said that Chevrolet had a number of paint suppliers so the color could and did change slightly all the time. As well, I would say that shooting quality paint out of a gun will always be a bit better than a can. Hope this helps........Bill S

[/ QUOTE ] Had a simalar conversation with Jerry MacNeish several years ago. He felt the same way. During the era, all of the 'Big Three' had several outside suppliers for anything that wasn't manufactured 'in house'. This was done to avoid possible disruptions in the production schedules.
