And yet nobody else has seen this "proof" or list of VIN's that the big block engines were assigned to! I still don't see how Tonawanda(I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong) would know the VIN of the car since that isn't assigned until the car is scheduled at the assembly plant.

Well I don't think you can or I don't think that is possible. However, if you really knew Vince at the time and you were on good terms with him, maybe worked for GM and asked him nicely, he probably could have pulled the records back in the 1970's. That would be the only way. Plus I am sure vince had his own set of records on the Big Block performance cars from 1969 and 1970. So really the validity of this claim comes down to this; did this guy Greg really work for GM in the 1970's

No one that I have ever heard of... if fact, I've never even heard the term "D.P.E" mentioned by anyone other than Bain, ever. I think its his own private verification system.

There is one thing that I can't understand about all this mess. If Bain's car were a real COPO and he has proof, why he he trying to sell it for less that half what it is worth. Why not show the proof and sell it for the $150k it would be worth. I know he is not the smartest person around but surely, he is not that stupid.

[/ QUOTE ]I called the DPE phone number in the ad...I fed him the VIN of our Y-Camaro, and he acted like he was looking but said he didn't have anything on it, then asked if it was a Z/28...I said "yeah", and he immediately went into his sales pitch about re-stamping my block and making paperwork...90% of the conversation was his sales pitch about "making" me a car...when I asked him about the numbers, he literally said he did NOT have them, but knew who did but it would take a few months to check them???? |

Well you know Mr. Clary all due respect to you and your club if your going to test this man it should be independantly formulated by a few people and reported on by someone who doesn't have a conflict of interest in this matter. When did you call him?? I think it's conflict of interest to report on this in the manner you have chosen, no disrepect intended just my opinion. This seems to be a really hot issue and I think it probably deserves to have completely impartial people investigate and report on it? What do you think?
