A likely scenario might be....
* multiple part computer form (the buildsheet) is generated with pertinent customer order data prior to production process * good share of this multiple part form travels with the car as it is produced with parts being removed and sent back to administrative areas for job tracking as the work is completed * X number of parts of the form are put in the car permanently (for whatever reason). Some of us now have our buildsheet/s! * last two parts of this multiple part form are removed from the form prior to completion of production and are set aside until notice that the car is complete and ready for shipping * production completed, this two part section (which has a carbon sheet in between) is now presented to the shipper where they sign in the appropriate lower right area called Statement Of Acceptance By Carrier. GM keeps the original and gives part 2 to the shipper. .....makes sense to me. |

If that is the case, why is this one not signed?

Remember the buildsheet starts out as one multiple part set with pages removed along the way. The signing by the carrier showing legal transfer would obviously be one of the last steps in the process. That's how I envision it anyway as a guy who worked in the form's business for many years. |

an interesting "tid-bit" from this thread on the FGMCC.
FGMCC thread "i purchased a 70 350 4spd from a fellow club member now moved on , it has the factory protecto plate numbers motor and trans rear etc , with it came the retail order form with all ordered options , 3732.30 new ordered 11-10-69 now heres is the neat part , the owner worked for gm this was about 4 years ago , he was able to obtain a copy of a document with options like an invoice with all options listed plus rail delivery info etc , so there are still documents at gm to this day and i believe lots of them"

Rick, I think that you have an excellent idea about trying to contact the various trucking companies. I went to the vault and dug out the various build sheets from my green ls6.All say 2 in the lower right corner, even though I found them in different locations. The shipping name on one of the build sheets found in my car,but not for my car is Chicago Ramp, another is Norwood Ramp, also one that says Shipped Via Salt Lake City, my ls6's build sheets say Shipped Via Truckaway, hope this helps.

When they mention "Ramp",that is in reference to the car being shipped via train route from the assembly plant,to the selling dealer.
Truckaway means just that,it was trucked by a carrier, and usually because it was more local to the plant & more economical then a train route. I believe Kansas Leeds plant was the only one of the 7 Chevelle plants that stated these routes on their Buildsheets. |
