Toyvet,
------TimG's 67 400/427 green roadster has a few more miles but is a better car in my opinion and I know both these cars pretty well. Please dont get me wrong, as its only by a point or two at most. Pauls car is a piece of artwork. Up at this level I think its more about how the car was treated very early in its life that makes the difference, and Tims car was absolutely pampered from the day it was delivered. Many years ago (circa 1980/2) a friend of mine in Chicago called me about this car possibly being for sale. Upon arriving at the original owners house we spent about 20 minutes unwrapping the car before we could see it. It was a dry winter day and he wouldnt roll the car out of the garage for us to look at it because he said it was cold. The owner then decided he just couldnt sell it and we went home very disappointed! ------It was many years later before he did sell the car and after a few careful owners in the middle Tim is now the caretaker. You guys should see it (spectacular)!!!!.........Bill S ------P.S. Im sure Roger Judski (owner of the L88) is real happy with the present values of 67 Vettes in general. Wonder what the 12 mile car is worth today? |

Bill, thanks for the very kind words about my car. I think that the green car was the best one that Chris owned, still not sure why he sold it to me. I enjoy hearing stories about how John Palm had it stored and pampered. I'm not real familiar with the blue car anymore, I was wondering how it compared to my car. Thanks for the update.

The 12 mile car had the bottom of it painted white or something didn't it? I have a Corvette Fever magazine from the late 80's or Early 90's that had a whole article about the car being bought to go drag racing they brought it home painted the bottom of the car white and then parked it in a warehouse in (Chicago)? I think. Didn't have the money to race it or something like that.

Chris sent me pictures of the blue/blue L88 roadster, it's heading off to Nabers for restoration. Probably will be seen at 2006 Bloomington. It's a pretty neet car.
The 12 mile car has original paint and interior, the engine is a replacement and the chassis has been worked on, still an amazing car. |

Firstgenaddict,
-------You are correct in some degree, as the chassis was painted white. But the 12 mile car was originally delivered in the northwest and trailered to the young (then) owners home and taken apart, ostensibly to dragrace. There is a guy on the NCRS website on a daily basis (Duke) that lived across the alley from him and he can fill in that part of the story much better than I. -------However, later on one of the great classic car dealers of all time, and a great guy, "Friendly Bob Adams" out of southern Wisconsin ended up with it and then a good friend and customer of mine from Janesville Wi. purchased it from Bob. I stayed with Bobs son (another great guy) Bob junior in Scottsdale this year while giving my Chevelle away. -------Eventually Dave Burroughs and one of my old bosses, Jim K bought it and thats when the car was put back in original condition. The engine actually came from the illustrious Pro-Team. It was a complete NOS correctly dated over the counter 351 cast L88. When my friend in Janesville got the car it was missing a large number of original items that had been replaced with over-the-counter, substandard GM stuff. There were several inbetween brokers involved back then and I dont think anyone knows to this day where all the stuff went. Back at this time there were very few reproduction pieces that were done correctly. The name of the game for those with a distinct lack of scruples was to take the mint pieces for thier own. Even stuff like the original gas pedal were gone. Luckily along with all the misfortune many pieces of great importance were left such as almost all the interior. I dont think there is a reproduction piece on the car now as Dave B is detail oriented to the 'nth degree. He wouldnt have allowed anything on the car that wasnt perfect for it, and he did all the resto on the car that was necessary. It all seems confusing but I hope this helps. Im sure a whole lot of cars went thru just as many twists and turns while getting "whole" again!!!!!.........Bill S |
