I have a 1980 Monza spyder that has a V8 in it. It was sold new from Scuncio and I'm trying to find out if it was installed at Scuncio or after it was bought there. I'll keep you posted

I believe you could get a factory V8 in a Monza as a RPO.When I had mine, there were a few guys with factory 305's at the track. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the small blocks......I was running a 440 Mopar in my 80 notchback

The factory V8 was not a real popular item back then. The motor was shoehorned into the body in such a way that in order to change that back spark plugs, the motor had to be disconnected from the mounts and hoisted up about 6".
Also, the 5 speed transmission had reverse in the top left corner where 1st would be on a 4 speed, and there was no reverse lockout. Test drive was like driving another Vega. After owning 2 Vegas, and having Berger Chevrolet refuse to come down $300 bucks on a $3300 car, a bought my one and only Ford, a '76 Mustang II MPG. 20 mpg was good back then, and gas was expensive. There was no V8 engine option in 1980 for the monza. The car I have has hooker headers & engine mount kit,four speed trans with Hurst shifter,4:11 posi and slotted mags. I also have a 1979 Z28 from Scuncio that has aftermarket parts added by Scuncio.

I seem to remember Monzas having the infamous 262 v8. Not sure what year, and never seemed to run very well. I remember the ground effects package looked kinda cool. There's a picture of a drag version on the cover of an early 70's Berger catalog.

I drove a '78 monza with I think a 262 v8,(might of been a 305) when I was a high school boy running cars for dealers.. it was sluggish as anything going up the mountains towards colorado for such a small car. When I picked it up I thought this should be an easy trip with enough power but nope!
