If the car were YS 8042 and it fell in line with the other YS numbered cars of YS 8043 which is Vin# 482858 then YS 8042 "could" have been too late a production to be Grotto blue. That color was dropped in Early (calender year) 68 in favor of Lemans Blue. Lemans blue and Corvette Bronze were introduced at the same time and YS# 8037 was Corvette Bronze. (Just something to think about)

We can speculate all we want or Omar could just chime in and give out the vin or fill us in instead of staying mad in the background.

On December 15th of 67, GM issued a zone letter indicating four colors were being dropped from production and four new colors were being added effective January 2nd 1968. The blue that was discontinued was "Fathom Blue" as they had just introduced "Lemans Blue" into the mix. They did not discontinue Grotto Blue and it was still in production until the end of the production year if I stand correct?. Here is a copy of the letter Jeff C. posted showing the color changes in early 68.
![]() This should clear up the Blue issue in the Grotto.

The auction ended last week without the reserve being met.
Why not wait until comes up for sale again to keep this thread going? Also, wasn't the Corvette 160 mph speedo interchangable with the '68 F-Body?

I would think in 1968 cars were converted just like 1981. Cars were pulled from stock and converted without real regard to build date. If a customer wanted a certain color it would be pulled and converted from the pool af available cars. There are 67 Camaros converted in early 68. Cars would not be converted as they arrived...BKH
