The 3 barrel carb is larger than any thing you could get at the time (950cfm) and it was for those that wanted to run dual fours on the street but couldn't afford it.
It was all go when you got into the secondary's and still and yet offer reasonable performance on the street. I will never forget having one on my rat motor '67 Chevelle and it would bog so dam easy no mater what you did to it. The rear squirter and gear drive helped but then the street ablity went to crap. I lived 12 miles from the local cruse spot and I would use a 1/4 tank of gas just getting there and back and I was not flogging it. I went to a 850cfm and it actually went faster on the street and used about 1/2 the gas as the 3 barell.
