Well, I flew back to WA state from Arizona last night. What a great time at the BJ auction. I was there all 5 days and saw some fantastic cars and met some great people. Not just members from this site, but some others.
I was also there to witness the 3 million dollar Olds F-88 concept car that sold on the block. Nice car, but I was very dissapointed in the sale price of the 1 of 1 58 retractable hardtop Vette that followed, 350k. It was a pleasure to meet Bruce, Larry, Bill Pritchard, Dave, Rich, George and his wife Karen, and their daughter, who is very grown up for her age. And last but not least, Charley. A great bunch of people. Thanks again George and Karen for letting me sit in the 69 BM Vette, and let me cross the rope to sit and BS with you two. I was hoping that the BM vette would have gone for 3-400k, but it was obvious that alot of people there didn't know what a BM Vette was, yet alone what BM stood for. A few people came up to me while sitting next to the BM vette to ask me those questions. Oh yeah, I also talked with Mr. Murphy a few times, the owner of the BM Vette since 71. What a nice and courteous man. I also talked with Boyd Coddington for a little while. Tim Allan walked right in front of me, so did Michael Anthony, the bassist for Van Halen. Of course Reggie Jackson was there. Once again, had a great time and for sure I will be returning next year, just hope we have better weather. ![]()

I was told the retractable hardtop Vette was not a GM built car. That would explain the price.

I just finished re-watching 3 days of this auction on Videotape. The 3 mill episode gets better & better everytime I rewind it.
You can literally see the point of intimidation, when the two bidders size eachother up in the Very begining... Ferrari dude lays low at first, then at the 600K mark just goes Freakin Ballistic,& lets his money speak for him. ![]() His performance was so overly dramatic,it would have made Sylvester Stallone jealous."Where's Tim,..Where's Tim?" ![]() Once it was all over & the car rolled away, they went onto bidding the next car,but it all seeemed so tame. How do you follow that, even if that Corvette did bring 350K. Charley looks better in slow mo... ![]() |

The Dude in the Ferrari hat that won the 3 mil car was not the buyer. The buyer was sitting in the second row right behind me. He told me it was going in his Museum in Colorado. The idiot in the Ferrari hat was probably his sweep boy. We heard later the Ferrari hat guy went to the bar and had all kinds of women hitting on him . Ha ! They thought he just dropped 3 mil on a car. The real buyer owns the Discovery channel.

Ferrari dude = Alan Lewenthal
Gateway Founder = Ted Waitt [ QUOTE ] "I was ready to keep going," said Lewenthal, who represented a group of Colorado buyers who are setting up a car museum in Gateway, Colo. "I just wanted to buy that car for the museum. It's the best concept car in the world." [/ QUOTE ] Quoted from azcentral.com. The Arizona homepage.
