Default Hurst Shift Lever Removal

I know that I have seen a previous post but cannot find it.
What is the secret to remove a factory Hurst shifter on my 69 Camaro? Looks to snap or slide in. Anyone with a technique to share?

I am taking it off to rechrome it. Can this be done by a local plater or does it require something special?

Thanks in advance.

If I remember right I used a feeler gauge (two of them) and slide them down each side of the shifter then pulled the shifter out.

Starter shims will work in a pinch.

A piece of wide banding... used for heavy shipping crates or pallets works the best. Probably can find a scrap at a moving and storage company.
