'69 Yenko Nova.....

Cool story! I have a friend / customer that is from the Pittsburgh area and I quizzed him on hot machinery from when he was running around. He said he didn't remember any Yenko cars in his area . He still has his '69 Camaro SS that was a 375hp 396 until he blew the engine. The engine was covered under warranty and he says that at that time, for the same money, he could get a replacement 396 or opt up to a 425hp 427 Isn't hard to guess which he went with I haven't seen it yet but is to have less than 20,000 miles on it. Brother is headed done to his place tomorrow, should send a camera along.

I wonder if the Gazette archived the classifieds along with the rest of the paper. Or maybe if you are lucky enough to find that one person who has a complete collection of the papers

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is cataloged on microfilm in it's entirety at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Unfortunately it's only sortable by date, so it's pretty much ask the librarian for a week's worth of papers on film, and then go sit at a viewer trying to find that certain ad. The "mid-80's" is a lot of papers to look through. It's not impossible, but it'd take a few days of sitting in the library for sure. If you had a real good idea when the ad ran it would be a lot easier to track down. Probably wouldn't be of much help once you found it anyhow, car is probably long gone and the phone number changed. Sure would be cool if you dialed it up and tracked down the owner though. One should only be so lucky.

Let's see........it was summer as I remember visiting friends at our local campground (you know - they're from "Pittsburgh" so they should automatically know the car).......I hadn't graduated from school yet so that puts it prior to '84......I had only known about Yenko Novas for a couple of years as a friend of mine in school knew of a 427 Nova that the owner routinely "ramped".....so mid '80s gets narrowed down to '82-'83. That's probably as close as it is going to get. Just think, you only have to look at the Sunday classifieds as that is the only day Dad would buy the paper and he only bought it for the classifieds

Here you go for another one in Alabama.
Late Feb Early March of 2001. Yellow 69 Camaro 427 4spd for $10,000 in Birmingham. Original owner. Picture in the auto trader car appears to have Goodyear polyglas tires and ad claims 25,000 miles cowl hood and rally wheels. I called as soon as I got the trader woman answers, husband is out of town but I was the first to call and will tell him as soon as he gets back in 2 days. Of course no call finally get someone on the line ...sold to the first person to look at it. Someone said that they had seen a yellow 427 Camaro at a drag strip near Birmingham around the same time but have not seen it since. Anyone know about this car? I was saving the autotrader and the wife threw it away.
