This race will undoubtedly start another Firestorm of Controversy like the original Lasseter vs. Badie (GS vs. Hemi) race in that Muscle Car magazine many years ago

Being an E-body Hemi guy, I'm partial to the Hemi. Atleast in 2 of the categories it should represent it self well. However, each car should have their strengths and weaknesses. I'm sure. Patrick

Speed Channel does not have the cars listed correctly. They should be LS6 Chevelle,AMX,GTO Judge, Hemi Challenger,Hurst Olds,Boss 429 and Stage 1 Buick.

I should never admit to this but I have a feeling the Buick will come out on top. We shall see. Obviously I would much rather have the LS-6 win overall.

I'll take the Chevelle as the overall winner!! ![]() [/ QUOTE ] I would bet on the LS6 too, but I think the handling and braking are gonna be too strong of a factor, so I'm thinking the GS Stage 1 overall. Same with the Hemi - acceleration will be a huge factor, but the handling characteristics of the 'Cuda might hold it back. This is all speculation, of course. But let's see what other's here think... ![]() ![]() ![]() Mac

[/ QUOTE ] You're absolutely right. I went to the Dream Car Garage website and it said the following: The Muscle Car Shootout is a one hour special that will put factory stock versions of these legendary cars through a series of tests designed to reveal their strengths and weaknesses. The stars of the special are line up of the muscle car eras heavy hitters: 1969 AMX 390 GO PACKAGE 1970 BUICK GS 455 STAGE 1 1970 HEMI CHALLENGER 1970 CHEVELLE SS 454 LS6 1969 MUSTANG BOSS 429 1969 HURST OLDSMOBILE 1969 PONTIAC GTO JUDGE The shootout will involve five individual tests. Braking and handling will be just as important as straight line acceleration. The test parameters are as follows: 0-60 mph acceleration Standing ¼ mile 60-0 mph braking test Slalom handling test Burn out contest Points will be given for each test, seven points for the fastest time down to one for the slowest. All tests are weighted equally; the winner is the car with the most points. The burn out contest will be the wild card, creating a never before seen test. The shootout will attempt to equalize the variables as much as possible. All cars ran on the same tires, using the same fuel and the same brake materials, so that performance is judged strictly on manufacturer’s differences. The test segments will be interspersed with interviews with owners and industry experts and some cool vintage footage. Peter will be doing the driving and Tom will narrate the special.

Don't like the burnout as it is very subjective and saw where a couple of years ago the left tire blew and did quite a bit of damage to the wheel well opening, trim and quarter panel. Don't think I would want to participate in that part of it.
But what do I know. Check attachment. This was early '70's and it was just a 4bbl/at car with 3:90 gears.

Call me silly, but the H/O might have a shot! Looking at the different events, you know that the Hemi is going to suck on the cones and braking. The AMC might shock more than a few people. The Boss 429 has to be in proper tune (as they all do). And of the GM 'A' bodies, who else had a rear stabilizer bar? It will be interesting whose cars they are using for this event. As we all know, if the cars have been trailer queens all of the time, they are not going to like being flogged.
