Default Re: Stripe delete Yenkos

The Yenko stripe package didn't start until '69, so all of the '67's would have been 'stripe delete'. To my knowledge there is no defining date or vin where stripes were involved with the '67's.

Very few of the '69 cars were 'stripe delete', some of them were noted on the inventory sheets, others were noted on the original paperwork. Other original owners report that Yenko would not allow the car to go off the lot 'without' the stripes! So, when the owner got the car home, he would promptly remove the stripes. Interestingly, Yenko would add other 427 insignia's at the owners request, but just wouldn't take the stripes off. What I've noticed is that if a person ordered the car at Yenko, and requested no stripes, then it was not striped. However, if the car was on the lot, and maybe had stripes on it already, Yenko would not take them off. To my knowledge there are no '70 'stripe delete' Yenko Novas, but there were some without the mag wheels, emblems, and a/t's without the shifter installed - it came in the trunk.

On the other subject, I learned that the original owner, Clyde Krug III passed away some 25 yrs. ago. Still looking for the 2nd owner Stephen Paul McGirt from Charlotte. For anybody researching the history of their cars try www.anywho.com (the white pages)

On a side note, The 81 Turbo Z's arrived at Yenko with full factory Z striping. If you ever look at an original paint Turbo Z you can still see were the factory stripe "bit" into the original paint. The factory stripe was removed and the Yenko graphics applied...BKH

There may have been some stripe delete 67 Yenko Camaros.
I believe most of 67 Yenko Camaro SS427 cars came with the factory SS nose stripe and a side pin stripe that was mandatory with SS Camaro package. Yenko could have ordered special 1967 Yenko Camaros with SS stripe delete. I have not heard of any but Yenko would have had to special order the cars to not get the SS nose and pin stripe. There was at least one 1968 Yenko 427 Camaro with stripe delete. It has a dash paint code on the trim tag. The original owner said the car came with no SS nose stripe and Yenko then added a 1967 SS style nose stripe which is different then the 68 SS stripe. I have found 4 documented 67 Yenko Camaros with a dash on the trim tag but not in the paint code field. My 67 has the dash but the original owner said the car came with the factory nose and pin stripe so I don't think the dash was for special paint. I found the dash on half of the 67 Yenkos I have info on and think it was for some type of special order for Yenko. Some of the 67 Yenko Camaros may have been ordered by Yenko using the COPO or fleet car system. Yenko did this in 1966 with the Stinger so he could have done it with the 67 Camaro factory BB cars. There were only 1138 L78 Camaros built in 67 which is less then two per dealer and Yenko received about 50 1967 L78 Camaros. So I think that some type of special order may have been used to get the 1967 cars and get special pricing on them which Yenko was always trying to get on his COPO cars. I also have some original Yenko paperwork where Yenko requested special COPO cars in 1967. It is a request so I don't know if he ever was allowed to get it. Still need to work on this but hard to find good info.

I agree with you there JoeC, Yenko would do all kinds of things to the cars - like a '68 v/t on a '69 Yenko Camaro! I was only referring to the YENKO vinyl stripes that he installed on the '69 and up cars - to my knowledge he didn't install any special kind of vinyl stripe package to the '67 or '68 cars.

joe we got the car apart, and its got its original red on the floors, jams, fender cowl area, along the window line, inside the doors as overspray etc. but the cowl and lip of firewall is orig white, we sanded it down on the body stamped vin number there and hit bare metal, we figured this was common on all yenkos and something like what the z28s got, I have heard of 68 z28s w/ stripe delete and the cowl is still white underneath, don't know why? I never figured to ask you if yours is white under the cowl panel, I didn't think it was anything special, I got pics if you would like to see belair, I dont' know of any cars other than z28s that got white cowls?? anybody know if this is common for 67 yenkos?? thanks.

I have original pictures of my '67 Nickey, and, there is no side pin stripe. Since when was that a mandatory stripe on SS cars?

joe what's the date on the copo request paperwork, is there anything in their regarding stripe delete cars?? There was only 602 z28s built in 67, max limit for hipo dealers was 5, which leaves alot of dealers w/ none, I know yenko got 3 of the first 25 for daytona as seen on joe pike's gm paperwork. Does your requests show anything about ordering z28s or solid lifter 350s(like the yutivo ones on camaro.org) as special/fleet order for yenko's stormer program, and do you know if it was a 512 ce block or a 4 bolt?
