The rear body panel is not black but that could have been painted.
Why don’t you sneak over tonight with a piece of sandpaper and see if the panel is black under that red paint… Oh, and try not to get shot while doing this……. Mark L

If this 70 "L-78" is L.A. built with NO L-78 on trim tag and presumably no build sheet, verifying is near impossible.
Tach equipped cars have the RARE 6500RedLine/7000Max Tach and there might be evidence of TCS relay or Green TCS wiring in engine compartment. The Black Tailpanel would prove Big Block but not L-78. Not sure about fuel line differences on L-34 7 L-78 1970 Camaros ???? Chuck S

I must correct myself on L-34's and TCS, as I viewed the below picture of Dale R's 70 L-34 Camaro....bought new and still owned.

Mr 70, Both 1970 L-34(1800 built)and L-78(600 built) Camaros had the TCS system. The removal of an L-78 engine and/or the A.I.R. "Smog" apparently would leave NO evidence I can think of. Without a Norwood trim tag, L.A. build sheet, POP, Window Sticker, Invoice or 6500/7000 Tach I dont know how to PROVE 70 L-78 Camaro. I'm going to say that the 4 spd L-78 was standard with 3:55 gears while the L-34 4 spd was standard with 3:31.....but obviously subject to RPO changes.....all SS's and Z-28's had 12 Bolt (LAST Year)

In that old ad it said/says that they have the build sheet. That said, with all of the good fakeries these days, who knows what it is..
I will be glad to take whatever pics that I can. I'll have to talk to them to be able to get the hood open and snap the cowl/trim tag. LOL on the sandpaper and getting shot part. I could probably stand there for an hour and nobody would even blink. The paint looks to be old and thick...I might need to use a grinder ... ![]() If they shot me, they'd probably kick my bloated carcass to the side and use it to deter future sandpaper attempts. If the stinkin' snow melts soon, I can hopefully shimmy my belly underneath and get the axle code and take more pics. |

![]() Like most cars,the transmission suffix code & rearend suffix code will tell what engine it was built with on the line,if indeed they are in fact still the original Transmission & rearend. I am getting more & more inquiries from people asking me what Trans. & rearend suffix their cars engine should have. I feel those cloners are catching onto this. You know who you are... |
