That assembly code appears to be "IU" and if memory serves me right that denoted 1967 (and maybe 1968) L71/L89. 1967-68 L88 used an "IT" assembly code.
Also, the first digit of the VIN derivative (year designation) looks to be a "4".

I looked at a few 68 Corvette VIN's and they are in the 8S4xxxxx range as well so it sure looks like that engine is from a 68 Vette.
